If you've ever attended any SCBWI Workshop, then you may have learned a few tricks of the trade, especially among children's books. In one of Marjetta Geerling's workshops on how to appeal to children and adults when writing children's books, she expressed that children don't like to be talked down to, nor do they like it when a message or lesson is presented in such a way that the author might as well have said,"Hey, look over here, this is the lesson you're to learn, so read it!" Not very many adult readers would consider a book or novel written in such manner, and kids are doubly picky when it comes to reading.
